The data structure is placed in /Library/Te X and consists of some carefully designed symbolic links to installed distributions. You can find them at ftp://org/historic/macros/latex-saildart/. More historic material can be found at ftp://org/historic (you may not be able to open this in all browsers — alternatively try https://utah.edu/pub/tex/historic/).If you downloaded Mac Te X as recommended under the "Obtaining" tab, double click Mac Te X to begin the installation process. For a number of years, the standard Te X distribution on Mac OS X and GNU/Linux was te Te X, maintained by Thomas Esser. On the Macintosh, this distribution was enhanced by Gerben Wierda, who wrote a program called i-Installer to download his enhanced version from the network, to configure it, and to upgrade it periodically. If you want to discuss a possible contribution before (or instead of) making a pull request, we suggest you raise the topic first on the LATEX-L list or drop a line to the team.

Ulrik Vieth has collected historic versions of La Te X from La Te X 2.0 for Te X 1.0 (released on 11 December 1983) onwards. All files have been pulled from the SAILDART archive site at (no longer online) which was based on archive tapes from SAIL at Stanford.

This machinery consists of Donald Knuth's command line program, which does the actual typesetting, and of an enormous number of fonts, macro packages like La Te X and Con Te Xt, style files, documentation, configuration files, and the like.

The enormous collection of programs and support files is called a Te X Distribution.

Nowadays La Te X, and many of the packages built on it, form an important component of any major Te X distribution.

The La Te X team cannot guarantee that Te X distributions, even recent ones, contain the most recent version of La Te X.

Shortly afterward, Gerben Wierda stopped updating his system.
